First Presbyterian Church of Rockaway, New Jersey

Our mission is guided by the words of the Bible: to “see that justice is done, let kindness be our first concern, and humbly follow the pathway to God” from the Hebrew Scriptures (Micah 6:8) and “to love one another as Jesus loved us” from the Gospels. (John 13:34)  We believe this mission is best fulfilled through the actions of people working together as followers of Jesus Christ.  We pledge our lives and our resources to reaching out:

raising our varied hands and voices together in prayer and praise

We celebrate God’s creative love for all people and all creation with a deep and abiding joy.  We seek to return that creative love to God and to share it with all the people we meet. 

·        We seek to experience God’s Spirit through our worship and through music that lifts our hearts;

·        We pray to God with each other and for each other;

·        And we deepen our faith and our understanding of discipleship through Bible study, stewardship, service, and the many ways God’s grace touches us.

We take Jesus’ commandment “to love one another” to heart and realize that in serving each other, we are serving God. 

·        We invite all people to be part of “the one body of Christ,” striving to break down the walls that people erect between each other: barriers of age, class, culture, gender, race, and sexual identity.

·        We work together to meet the needs of our community through the use of our facilities, people, and material resources.

·        We share in the ministry of pastoral care for all people.
