It takes many people to carry out the ministry of First Presbyterian Church. Our members serve in many ways but the responsibility for all that we do lies with the Session. The Session is the executive board and trustees for the church. Ruling elders are elected each year to serve a three year term. Together ruling elders seek to make faithful decisions for the church. Our Session includes the following committees:
Christian Education- The Christian Education Committee is responsible for spiritual formation through Sunday school, Bible studies, youth ministry and works directly with PCCNS.
Communications- This committee is designed to increase communication of programs and events within the congregation and community through the web site, social, print media and more.
Finance – is responsible for the oversight of the budget and church funds.
Stewardship - is responsible for education about stewardship throughout the year and for annual pledge campaign.
Congregational Care– Provides a pastoral link to the congregation through the Parish Ministry, maintains the church rolls, and seeks to build connections between members and the church family along with the roles of the Deacons. The Deacons serve on this committee.
Nominating– Provides a slate of officers for the elders, deacons, treasurer, Member Assist, and Nominating Committee for the next year. This is a one year term. One elder serves as chair. Another elder serves one year and then serves as chair the next year. The chair serves only one year.
Outreach & Mission- Develops opportunities for mission in the community and oversees the dispensation of benevolent funds.
Personnel- Provides support and oversight for staff along with the pastor/s.
Property and Cemetery- Property is responsible for the maintenance of the church property and facilities. Cemetery - is responsible for the upkeep of the cemetery, policies related to the cemetery, and oversees and works with the Cemetery sexton.
Worship– This committee is responsible for the maintenance of worship in consultation with the pastor/s and music director.
The committees of the Session are made up of ruling elders and other volunteers. We always welcome new volunteers. If you are interested in a particular committee, contact office@fpcrockaway.org for more information.
