Who We Are

We are Presbyterian 
At First Presbyterian Church you will find people who come from varied traditions: Protestant and Catholic, liberal and conservative, young and old, new members and long time members.  Our differences are not what define us,  it is our oneness in Christ that gives us our identity.  We gather together with a common desire, to encounter God in worship, study, service, and our daily lives. United in Christ, we foster a community in which we bring our different viewpoints together in dialogue.    

Presbyterians have been around for a long time, but that doesn't mean we're outdated.  We continue to listen for God speaking through each other today and for God's leading as we address current issues in society, grounded in Scripture and tradition.  
Some principals of our faith include:
  • The recognition that all creation flows from God and God is always at work in all of creation.  
  • The Bible is the way Christian believers come to understand how God has been present with humanity since the beginning of time and is present in our world today.  By studying the scriptures we can begin to know of God’s faithfulness, constant love and eternal goodness.   
  • There is nothing we can do to deserve God's loving favor, it is a gift of grace God freely gives.
  • Jesus the Christ is God's gift of love and compassion who shows  us the way of salvation.   ​
  • ​All believers are entrusted with the responsibility to help others connect with God through our words and our actions. ​

​Presbyterians are distinctive in two major ways:
We adhere to a pattern of religious thought known as Reformed theology and a form of government that stresses the active, inclusive, representational leadership of ministers and church members.
